Writing

Ever since I can remember I have loved writing, capturing, playing with words and gathering more in the treasure chest. I made copious notes during trips, life events. It started as diaries and fun, action packed letters to friends, then In Africa I had the chance to do two Creative Writing Modules (University of Lancaster and Open University. 2003-2004) and since then I write and write.

My passion: Capturing to remember and to share
My purpose: To entertain and inform
My dream: To combine my love of travel and my genuine curiosity of people.

These are the services I offer:

Writing YOUR story

I wrote the new corporate brochure for the International Institute of Social Studies the Hague (ISS), aligning it with their vision developed over the past 60 years, yet very much in our actual world.

It was such a pleasure to work with Julie on our brand new corporate brochure. With her meaningful questions, an out-of-the-box way of looking at things and her cheerful approach, she added an important personal touch to the publication. We love the result.”
Sandra Nijhof, communication and marketing manager ISS, The Hague

'Julie is a regular co-presenter on Dutchbuzz and her knowledge of the international community in The Hague serves her well when talking about issues that matter to this sector. She has a lively interest in the entrepreneurs from this community and features them in her weekly column, "Passion & Purpose". Julie is able to think on her feet and manages to get the best out of her interviewees while enjoying the 'buzz' of live studio work.

For the past two years, Julie has been actively involved with the Dutchbuzz Team and we hope she will continue to share her lively personality on the show for some time to come.'

Looking back, I am very happy to have engaged Julie Kennedy for help in getting the English versions of business documentation and websites redone,  as well as some translation work. We hesitated to get help again as traditionally you get invoices based on numbers of words translated and a translator who doesn’t grasp the thorough meaning and nuances of the text or business. Julie surprised us with direct and fast communication and full initiative in understanding our business.  Working with her was having another entrepreneur sitting next to us and simply doing what had to be done rather than what was asked for.

"Julie Kennedy makes the impossible possible. Deeply rooted in family and service to her community, she embodies the ideal of the dynamic, have-it-all woman who, despite experiencing more than her share of life's ups and downs, always retains her calm demeanour, her gratefulness for life, and...yes, even her fighting spirit when necessary. Julie and I worked together on the book A Coach's Story and I recall being so impressed by these qualities, as well as her writing abilities, which aptly reflect the woman she is - intuitive, gracious, brave and intensely conscious of the world around her."

"I recommend Julie as an editor for academic and other pieces in English. Julie has helped me greatly as the English-editor of my reworking of my PhD-thesis for a book to be published by Palgrave Macmillan. Julie as a native speaker of English removed the Dutchness out of my English, and spotted exactly those pockets of ambiguity of meaning that keep the reader out of the reading flow. Extraordinarily she had no trouble understanding an intellectually demanding philosophical PhD-thesis in a domain which was not her own. Apart from her intellectual and language proficiency, she is a great pleasure to work with because she is flexible, understands the approach needed, and is great in planning and handling the process.

Julie has worked for Diplomat Affairs Magazine on many occasions, covering our various events. We have always been delighted with her work. She always manages to capture not only the happenings but also the atmosphere which she describes with brio, paying attention to the details which set the scene. She is a natural writer driven by her authentic curiosity and direct, though candid line of questioning. Julie has a sociable personality, yet finely tuned to the protocol required in our environment. Her 5 languages and inter cultural skills were also a valuable asset in connecting with the diplomatic community. She writes with ease and fluency with a wide array of vocabulary, producing concise, lively and factual texts. Shida Bliek Publisher
